Fibreoptic Patchcords

LumeDEL fiberoptic patch cords are fibre optic cables terminated with fibre optic connectors on both ends.

 

The most common connector used with multimode fibres is the industry-standard SMA 905 which allows users to interface with NewDEL light sources along with the full range of accessories. FC connectors can be specified if required.

 

The standard patch cords are 1 metre length, single strand, multimode, step-index optical fiber with 1 mm core diameter. A choice of fibre-type can be selected according to the wavelength of the NewDEL light source and other desired characteristics. Upon request, LumeDEL can provide smaller core diameters and various numerical aperture (NA) for fused silica fiber patch cords.

 

Plastic optical fiber (POF) patch cords FP63P and FP58P are more flexible and provide very high numerical aperture (NA) which provides the best optical coupling efficiency to LEDs to deliver maximum output power.

 

As POF is not suitable for UV transmission due to high absorption (and fluorescence) LumeDEL offers the FP50H patchcord featuring a High-OH content silica core for a spectral range of 300 nm to 1200 nm at NA 0.50.

 

For wavelengths below 300 nm, i.e. NewDEL models N275 (275 nm) and N280 (280 nm) LumeDEL offer the FP22U patch cord. This uses a hydrogen loaded, High-OH silica core to provide the best resistance to solarisation, a process whereby high-OH silica fiber can experience significant transmission loss when exposed to UV radiation. The FP22U can be used for other UV wavelengths (<400nm) and can offer both superior internal transmission and prolonged performance, providing the NA 0.22 is acceptable.
