AFBR S4E001 EVK AFBR S4NxxP014MBroadcom offer an easy-to-use Evaluation Kit designed to allow rapid evaluation and characterisation of their NUV-MT series of SiPMs - 2mm AFBR-S4N22P014M, 4mm AFBR-S4N44P014M and 6mm AFBR-S4N66P014M.

 

The Evaluation Kit includes two evaluation boards and three SiPMs mounted on mini PCB "interposer boards" which plug directly into the evaluation boards.

 

DC Readout Evaluation Board:

This small circular PCB is intended to give users the maximum dynamic range of the SiPM without the potential restrictions of signal amplitude or bandwidth.

 

The board features MCX connectors for the SiPM bias and readout. A low-pass filter on the bias supply line reduces voltage ripples) whilst the 50Ω load resistor on the signal-out line gives an effective load of 25Ω when the evaluation board is used with an oscilloscope or DAQ with 50Ω input impedance.

 

The circular PCB is designed for fit Thorlabs'SM01 cage frames, allowing interface to many freespace and fibre-coupled optics. There is no onboard amplification.

 

Amplifier PCB:

This rectangular evaluation board features a high performance 2-stage broadband amplifier with two 50Ω outputs, allowing separate monitoring of timing and energy, for example. The evaluation board is designed for single-photon testing as well as multi-photon applications such as scintillator readout.

 

The high voltage is filtered before being applied to the SiPM to minimise the fluctuations in the voltage source. The SiPM output signal goes into a first stage of amplification based on an operational amplifier in a transimpedance configuration. Its output is then split into two lines: the first goes through a buffer with unity gain and is connected to Out1; the second passes through a second stage of amplification including a Pole-Zero (PZ) filtering network and is connected to Out2. Given a flash of light, Out1 is used to estimate the number of detected photons, whereas Out2 gives a precise determination of the timing. Both outputs should be read through a 50Ω termination resistor.

 

NUV-MT series SiPMs

Three NUV-MT series SiPMs are supplied with the evaluation kit - these 2mm, 4mm and 6mm devices are mounted on a small PCB "interposer board" allowing quick installation on both evaluation boards as well as easy interchange.
